The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) organized an Orientation-Seminar on Ethics in Research with the aim to help participants understand basic principles in research ethics and its review process. The seminar took place at Regional Science Research Center (RSRC) on March 29, 2021.
The event started with the Vice Chancellor Dr. Edna P. Oconer’s welcome remarks expressing her gratitude to the speakers and the attending body. She also stressed that ethics must be employed in the university as it is a key component in upscaling the research and extension engagements of MSU-GSC.
The first speaker, Edlyn B. Jimenez, Coordinator of University of the Philippines Manila Research Ethics Board, introduced in her presentation the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) Guidelines on securing ethics clearance on studies involving human subjects and how to obtain accreditation from the PHREB. Ms. Gimenez also discussed some social issues with ethical concerns in conducting research activities. On the other hand, Dr. Ava Clare Marie O. Robles, Chairperson of Institutional Ethics Review Committee, discussed the review process and approval procedures of researches attended to by the Research Ethics Committee (REC). The seminar then went on with participants coming from various colleges and offices raising questions to the speakers and sharing learning insights through a series of open forum.
