The VC for Academic Affairs
Dr. Mishell D. Lawas is the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Mindanao State University-General Santos City. She has been with the institution for 16 years as an accomplished academician, accreditor and administrator with the current academic rank of Professor VI. She obtained her Doctor of Engineering at MSU-IIT, Iligan City, and earned both her Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City.
Dr. Lawas is a Professional Electronics Engineer rendering her professional services as a consultant and contractor of Electronics Design and Installation Projects. She is an expert in Electronics Engineering Design for Auxiliary Equipment and a staunch advocate of the mandatory inclusion and implementation of the Philippine Electronics Code. Presently, Dr. Lawas is the National Vice President for Education and Student Affairs in the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IECEP)—the only accredited professional organization of Electronics Engineers and Technicians in the country. In 2009, Dr. Lawas, along with other pioneering Electronics Engineers in the region, founded IECEP-SOCCSKSARGEN Chapter, and from 2014 to 2017, she served as its Governor and was given the meritorious Outstanding Service Award. Because of her noteworthy contribution to the profession, the Philippine Technological Council-Women Engineers Network (PTC-WEN) cited her as one of the 2019 Inspiring Filipina Engineers in the country.
In her years as an Engineering Professor, she also engaged in various Engineering researches. Her research involvement accorded her the Best Paper Award for her study entitled “Microcontroller Based Stewart Motion Simulator with PID Tuning” which she presented in Phuket, Thailand, and her advisership for the study “G-CLOCK: An Arduino-Based Digital Clock with a Dedicated Android Application Controller” won 1st Runner Up in the Outstanding Student Creative Research sponsored by RICE-DOST. Her studies entitled “Dynamic Gyroscope Sensor Fusion and Calibration using Kalman Filter,” “Sensor Fusion of Smartphone-Avionics Integrated System for a Fixed Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle” and “Microcontroller Based Stewart Motion Simulator with PID Tuning” were published in the International Journal of Engineering and Technology and the IECEP Journal. The same had been presented in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Phuket, Thailand, and in SMX Convention Center, Taguig, Philippines, respectively. Prior to her appointment as VCAA, she was the Quality Assurance and Management Services Director.
