MSU-Gensan hosts ICT Modernization Project Presentation

Mindanao State University – General Santos through its Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) led by Director Jose T. Trillo II hosted a two-day event on the ICT Modernization Project Presentation of the university on April 22-23 at London Beach Resort. The ICTO and other key offices convened to finalize the Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) and Multi-Year Contract Authority (MYCA) for the implementation of proposed ICT projects in the next three years. 

The event was graced by Chancellor Dr. Anshari P. Ali who stressed the importance of upscaling the ICT capabilities of the university and challenged the proponents in materializing the vision of turning MSU-Gensan into a Smart Campus. In response, the proponents led by ICTO produced an initial work plan and budgetary requirement for eight projects, namely: (1) ICT Modernization Program with Procurement of Smart Campus Tools and Distance Learning Equipment, (2) Acquisition and Development of Information Systems for the University, (3) Construction of 5-storey ICT Building, (4) Construction of MSU-Gensan Research and Innovation Center, (5) Overhauling the Whole Campus Network Infrastructure, (6) Internet Speed Upgrade with Failover Line (3-year Subscription), (7) Establishment of University Solar Farm and Energy Conversion Systems Research Center, and ( 8 ) University-wide Facilities Upgrade. 

Complementing the program were presentations from the Budget Office, led by Prof. Sheila J. Loable, on the Budget Proposal of the university for year 2022; from the Planning, Evaluation, and Monitoring Office (PEMO), led by Dr. Malona F. Alinsug, on the project mobilization and budgetary considerations of the university’s ICT Modernization as per the meeting with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA); from the Office of International Affairs, led by Dr. Anderson V. Villa, on the internationalization efforts of the university relevant to its ICT thrusts; from the Data Privacy Officer and Virtual Learning Center Coordinator, Dr. Laiza Limpin on the establishment of the university’s Research and Innovation Center which will house 15 Startup Incubation Hubs, an area for a Fablab, and five specialized laboratories.

Faculty from Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communications Engineering Department: Dr. Noel Gunay, Engr. Nelson Benares, Engr. Venus Elevensiado, and Engr. Jay Villan showed their strong support by leading the presentation on the establishment of the university’s own Solar Farm and strategizing the development of this hallmark project that will respond to the sustainable energy needs of MSU-Gensan. 

Also present in the event were Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mishell D. Lawas who expressed pleasure in the overwhelming funding support for the ICT Modernization of the university and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Dr. Edna P. Oconer, who emphasized the importance of streamlining the research potentials of MSU-Gensan through the proposed ICT projects. Representing their offices’ agenda and sharing their commitment to the proposed projects were Internal Audit Services Director, Ms. Lorraine M. Dagalangit, Campus Registrar, Prof. Tersa R. Castillo, Campus Secretary, Ms. Jorgelyn C. Rivera, University Press and Communications Office Director, Mr. Monlouie M. Sorzano, University Webmaster, Prof. Catherine Niñofranco, and the head coordinating staff of ICT Office, Mr. Khalil Anton Ambalong, Mr. Nassef Badrudin and Ms. Bea Bernadette Concepcion.

The ICT Modernization projects of the university will be implemented from 2022 to 2024. In its commitment of pursuing excellence, MSU-Gensan is looking towards becoming a leading university in Southern Philippines equipped with promising ICT capabilities.
