About
The Innovation Division of Mindanao State University – General Santos was established to support the development, protection, and utilization of innovation outputs of the University, in accordance with Board of Regents Resolution No. 421, s. 2023, which approved the creation of the Department of Innovation under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation. The Innovation Division serves as a functional unit responsible for managing innovation-related programs, including innovation grants, intellectual property management, and innovation support services, ensuring that all innovation initiatives are properly documented, implemented, and aligned with institutional priorities.
Objectives
The Innovation Division aims to protect and maximize the value of intellectual property, accelerate the commercialization of university-generated innovations, foster a thriving culture of start-ups and spin-offs, and strengthen local and global innovation partnerships.
Responsibilities
Aligned with OVCREI’s mission, the Innovation Division pursues the following:
- Protect the intellectual property (IP) rights of the university’s faculty, students, and researchers by conducting activities such as awareness campaigns, providing support for IP applications, and managing IP-related processes.
- Convert research and extension outcomes into innovative, market-ready products, patents, and services that address societal challenges and drive economic growth.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation and technopreneurship by supporting start-up and spin-off creation and technopreneurship initiatives within the university and its surrounding communities.
- Strengthen collaborations with local, national, and international partners to enhance resources, networks, and opportunities for innovation-focused projects.
- Promote environmental sustainability and inclusivity in designing, implementing, and disseminating innovative solutions to ensure enduring societal impact.
- Establish and oversee specialized innovation centers focused on information and communication technology (ICT), industrial, and agri-fisheries sectors, or income-generating projects (IGPs), to secure financial sustainability and adapt to emerging challenges.
