College of Medicine

The MSU Gensan College of Medicine, established in 2021, was created to address persistent health inequities in Mindanao, particularly in SOCCSKSARGEN and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, where poverty, child stunting, and limited healthcare access remain significant challenges. These issues were intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted critical shortages in the healthcare workforce, including a severe physician-to-population gap. Since its founding, the college has achieved key milestones such as securing CHED compliance, forming hospital partnerships, and actively participating in national medical conventions, culminating in the graduation of its first batch in 2025. Moving forward, the institution aims to strengthen its academic programs, expand clinical training opportunities, and advance research, while remaining committed to producing competent, compassionate, and culturally sensitive physicians dedicated to serving diverse communities in Southern Mindanao.

Program Offered

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is a four-year post-baccalaureate degree that prepares graduates to become licensed physicians in the Philippines. Graduates may use the “MD” title only after obtaining licensure from the Professional Regulation Commission, and the degree qualifies them to take the Physicians’ Licensure Examination (PLE), aligned with Level 7 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework and international education standards. The program combines basic science and clinical training and may follow various curriculum models—such as integrated, problem-based, or competency-based approaches—so long as learning outcomes are met. Its primary goal is to produce competent primary care physicians who can enter general medical practice and contribute effectively to the Philippine healthcare system after passing the licensure exam.
