MSU-General Santos holds university council meeting, highlights milestone and academic agenda

Mindanao State University–General Santos celebrated a significant milestone in campus development with the successful turnover of the MSU General Santos Multipurpose Building (Amphitheater), followed by the groundbreaking of a new Academic Complex on April 6.

The dual event highlights the university’s continuing commitment to infrastructure development, marking both the completion of a key facility and the beginning of another project aimed at enhancing academic excellence.

The amphitheater, completed just six months after its groundbreaking, stands as a testament to efficient project implementation and strong collaboration among stakeholders, including the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), contractors, and university officials.

In his message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas emphasized the significance of seeing projects through from start to finish, stating,”It always feels good when you start with the groundbreaking and now we are doing the turnover, meaning, the project is done. A project that moves from groundbreaking to turnover is a success.”

Chancellor also highlighted the importance of expanding the university’s role beyond instruction, research, and extension to include culture, arts, and sports development. The newly turned-over amphitheater is expected to serve as a venue for performances and cultural activities, reinforcing MSU–GenSan’s support for creative expression and student engagement.

The project was implemented under the supervision of Project Engineer Engr. Julius Rueben Gumban of MNF Builders, whose efforts contributed to the timely completion of the facility.

Following the turnover ceremony, the university proceeded with the groundbreaking of the MSU Academic Complex Building, signaling another step forward in strengthening the institution’s academic
infrastructure.

The new Academic Complex is envisioned to provide enhanced learning spaces that will support students and faculty, aligning with the university’s goals of academic excellence and innovation.

The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by key partners, including Engr. Rodolfo I. Angeles, General Manager of Christian Ley Construction, who will be involved in the project’s development.

As MSU–General Santos celebrates the successful completion of the amphitheater, the university looks forward to the future turnover of the Academic Complex—continuing its momentum of transforming plans into tangible, impactful spaces for the academic community.
