Mindanao State University–General Santos (MSU-GenSan) officially welcomed new and returning MSUans as it kicked off Academic Year 2026–2027 through the Salubong: Grand Opening Salvo at the University Gymnasium on August 10, 2026. Led by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services (OVCSAS) and its cluster offices, the celebration brought the MSU community together for a vibrant start to another academic year.
Earlier in the morning, colleges across the campus simultaneously welcomed new and returning MSUans through their respective College Salubongs, providing opportunities for students to reconnect with their college communities, meet fellow MSUans, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
During the Grand Opening Salvo, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Norman Ralph Isla welcomed the students and emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting their overall well-being, saying, “Maayong pag-abot sa MSU-GenSan. We, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services, are here to take care of you—from your physical concerns to your mental health.”
Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas also welcomed the students, reminding them that their university journey is part of a larger personal story. He shared, “You arrive here with your own stories, struggles, and your dreams. MSU-GenSan is part of that story starting today.”
The celebration continued with lively performances, games, and engaging activities prepared for the MSU community.
More than a grand welcome, Salubong marked a renewed sense of connection and community as MSUans began another chapter of their academic journey.
