Mindanao State University–General Santos continues its National Arts Month celebration this second week of February, with the flag-raising ceremony showcasing the true dance of the Philippines as a vibrant expression of Filipino culture and identity.
In his message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas provided updates on classroom retrofitting, facility improvements, and upcoming initiatives on internationalization and Ramadan activities.

“We are making steady progress on retrofitting classrooms and improving facilities to ensure our students have safe and conducive learning spaces,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Norman Ralph Isla emphasized the focus on Filipino folk dance and highlighted the MSU–GenSan Kabpapagariya Ensemble, recently recognized as a Group Category awardee of the General Santos City Youth Achiever’s Awards and honored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, with members performing at the CCP Pasinaya Festival.

“The true dance of the Philippines tells our stories through movement and music. It reflects our culture, our history, and our everyday lives,” Dr. Isla said.

The ceremony also featured the Balinsasayaw Dance Collective, performing Polka sa Plaza, a traditional dance reflecting community life and shared Filipino experiences.

The event brought together officials, faculty, staff, and students in celebrating creativity, reinforcing MSU–GenSan’s commitment to nurturing the arts as part of holistic education and nation-building.
