Mindanao State University–General Santos held its flag-raising ceremony, highlighting both the university preparation of the holy month of Ramadan and the continuing celebration of National Arts Month.
In his message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas welcomed international guests and spoke about the University’s growing academic engagements, particularly with Japanese institutions, while placing emphasis on preparations for Ramadan.
“We’ve been conducting early flag ceremonies every Monday since the start of the year, and I think we are gradually adjusting,” the Chancellor said.
Focusing on the upcoming holy month, the Chancellor announced adjustments for Muslim faculty and staff in line with Civil Service Commission guidelines. “This week will be the start of the holy month of Ramadan. For our Muslim brothers and sisters, there will be some adjustments. You may report to the office early and leave early, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.,” he said.
He added that while there is no official holiday declared for the start of fasting, faculty members have been encouraged to extend consideration to students who may request permission to travel home and begin Ramadan with their families.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Norman Ralph Isla reiterated that the University’s National Arts Month activities continue under the leadership of the Cultural Affairs Office headed by Ma’am Alma Aguja.
He shared that the exhibit at the MSU Cultural Museum remains open to the public at the University Library lobby.
The ceremony gathered University officials, faculty, staff, and students, reflecting MSU–GenSan’s commitment to inclusivity, cultural appreciation, and academic excellence, honoring both faith and heritage as integral parts of holistic education.
