Mindanao State University – General Santos commemorated the 40th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25, 2026, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to democracy and unity. The observance highlighted the University’s role in promoting civic responsibility and active participation in nation-building.
As part of the commemoration, meaningful activities were conducted, including the Forum on Media, Peace, and Democracy, which encouraged discussions on responsible media and informed citizenship, and a Prayer Vigil that gathered the academic community in solemn reflection and hope.
In his message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas emphasized, “Democracy survives only when citizens are willing to defend it,” reminding the community that the spirit of EDSA calls for continued vigilance and unity.
The day concluded with a memorial walk along Centennial Road and a candle-lighting ceremony attended by students, faculty, and staff. With speeches from student leaders and prayers of solidarity, the activity honored the Filipino people’s collective strength in reclaiming democracy while urging the MSU-Gensan community to uphold its enduring ideals.
