MSU-GenSan celebrates women’s leadership during National Women’s Month 2026

“We are not introducing a new concept of leadership—we are simply restoring something that is original.” This message resonated during the flag raising ceremony as the community of Mindanao State University – General Santos continued its observance of National Women’s Month on March 16, 2026.
In his message, Chancellor Shidik T. Abantas shared insights from the recent Higher Education Summit, noting that the university’s strategic directions remain aligned with the priorities of the Commission on Higher Education, particularly in advancing internationalization, public service, quality assurance, and strengthening research and extension outputs.
Meanwhile, Gender and Development (GAD) Director Ruhama L. Gomez highlighted the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, emphasizing the historic role of Babaylans as healers, cultural keepers, and mediators who once served as the heart and mind of their communities.
Gomez also mentioned the significance of Republic Act 7192, or the Women in Development and Nation Building Act of 1992, which recognizes women as full and equal partners in nation-building and ensures their access to opportunities and leadership roles in society.
As part of the ceremony, a tribute to women leaders of MSU-GenSan was held, followed by a serenade honoring the women of the university community. Flowers were also distributed as a gesture of appreciation, led by Prof. Evan Keith Tabasa.
Through these meaningful activities, MSU-GenSan continues to celebrate the leadership and invaluable contributions of women, reaffirming its commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering academic community.
