Mindanao State University–General Santos took a significant step toward environmental sustainability through its Green Ground Initiatives with a tree growing activity held on April 29, 2026, at the MSU campus grounds.
The program commenced with a welcome address from Atty. Daniel M. Galzote, Head of the Finance Division Office, who emphasized the importance of collective action in environmental efforts. “Activities like this prove that we take meaningful steps to create a greener university,” he shared.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Sheila J. Loable, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, highlighted the long-term vision of the initiative, underscoring that tree growing promotes sustainability. “Tree growing is about sustainability, it reflects one of the major pillars of our eco-campus project. With the collaboration of the Finance, Accounting, Cash, and Business Offices, this initiative goes beyond a single activity. It represents our collective commitment to building a greener and more sustainable university,” she stated.
The program orientation, which included “Planting 101” and the rationale of the activity, was facilitated by Mr. Allan D. Marcilla, EnP, Head of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), equipping participants with essential knowledge on proper tree planting practices.
A ceremonial tree planting followed, participated in by honored guests and members of the university community, symbolizing unity and a collective responsibility in environmental stewardship.
