Mindanao State University–General Santos marked a significant milestone for the Institute of Islamic, Arabic, and International Studies (IIAIS) with the groundbreaking ceremony for its Academic Building Phase 1 today, August 10, 2026, at the MSU-General Santos campus.
The project reflects the University’s continuing commitment to strengthening the Institute and providing its students with a dedicated academic space conducive to learning and excellence.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Mishell D. Lawas, PECE, underscored the importance of resilient infrastructure in sustaining the University’s academic mission, particularly in the wake of the recent earthquake. “Buildings may be shaken and rubble may fall to the ground, but our dreams and our commitment shall continue. We will not stop. We will continue dreaming and inspiring more of our students”, she said.
Meanwhile, University Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, MDM, LLM, reaffirmed the administration’s long-term vision for the Institute and its continued development.
“Our target is to sustain the development of our IIAIS. We have a lot of plans for the Institute.”
Chancellor also emphasized that the groundbreaking is part of the University’s broader efforts to strengthen IIAIS and create opportunities for its continued growth and advancement.
For IIAIS, the new academic building represents more than a physical structure; it marks a new chapter in the Institute’s journey toward strengthening Islamic, Arabic, and international studies, while providing an environment where students can learn, grow, and prepare for a globally connected world.
The ceremony culminated in the ceremonial groundbreaking and laying of the time capsule, symbolizing the beginning of a new foundation for the Institute, one anchored in resilience and a steadfast commitment to academic excellence.
