MSU – GenSan advances academic quality as CHED evaluates key programs

Mindanao State University – General Santos welcomed the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) National Evaluation Team for the monitoring and evaluation of the Master of Arts in Filipino (MA Filipino), Bachelor of Science in International Relations (BS International Relations), and Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS Psychology) programs on August 20, 2026.

The activity opened with a welcome message from Prof. Mario J. Aguja, Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, who welcomed the CHED National Evaluation Team and expressed the University’s appreciation for the evaluation as an opportunity to assess the programs’ implementation and identify areas for further improvement.

In his message of support, University Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, MDM, LLM emphasized the University’s commitment to strengthening its academic programs and support systems.

“We remain committed to addressing every area for improvement and ensuring that our programs continue to move forward with excellence,” he said.

Prof. Monsour A. Pelmin, Director of the Quality Assurance and Monitoring Office (QUAMSO), introduced the University’s key officials, while Dr. Marvin S. Alagbay, Education Supervisor II, presented the purpose and monitoring plan.

The three programs were presented by their respective representatives, followed by an ocular inspection of the library, laboratories, and classrooms.

The evaluation yielded generally positive findings, with the programs meeting basic requirements. However, areas for improvement and pending compliance requirements were identified, particularly in student services and facilities for the newer programs.

In response, Dr. Mishell D. Lawas, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs emphasized MSU – GenSan’s top management is committed to fast-track pending facility requests and address the identified areas for improvement.

The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and closing remarks from Prof. Abdul M. Lantong, Dean of the Institute of Islamic, Arabic and International Studies.

The activity highlights MSU – GenSan’s continuing commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement in advancing student-centered academic programs.
