Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Shirley Agrupis visited Mindanao State University–General Santos on June 13, 2026, to inspect facilities affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck General Santos City and nearby areas on June 8.
The visit included an assessment of the College of Medicine building located at the MSU–College of Education Training Department (CETD) campus, which was among the facilities declared off-limits following structural damage caused by the earthquake.
Representatives from the Office of Civil Defense, University officials, and technical personnel joined the inspection.
During the visit, Chairperson Agrupis emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough assessment and documentation of all damaged facilities to support the immediate processing of assistance and funding for rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
“We need to ensure that all damages are properly documented so that the necessary assistance and funding can be facilitated immediately. Our priority is the safety of students, faculty, and staff,” Chairperson Agrupis said.
She also underscored the importance of adhering to high standards of structural integrity and resilience in future infrastructure projects to better protect the University community from the impacts of future disasters.
MSU–GSC remains committed to working closely with CHED, the Office of Civil Defense, and other partner agencies in restoring affected facilities and ensuring the continuity of quality education as rehabilitation efforts move forward.
